Thoughts on Drilling and Health

My Chicago tricking buddy, Patrick, emailed me last night indicating that he wanted to buckle down and start really drilling his tricks instead of just having fun. I applauded him for these thoughts.

While it is my personal philosophy that tricking needs to be fun or else you're doing it wrong, if you ever want to make progress, you have to drill. It's just like weight lifting. If you do 5 sets of 8 repetitions over a period of time, you will progress. Tricking works the same way. If you do 5 sets of 8 backflips at every session, your backflips will get better.

However, if you are not consistent then it will all be for naught. If you only lift weights once every week and a half, or do the same with tricking drills, then you will progress at a far slower rate.

My thoughts on health are that I'm very tired haha, it's a consistent thing. My diet needs an overhaul, I'll probably mention that in future posts.

  1. Good advice man. I've never been able to do a backflip but wanna try, got any suggestions where to if I'm not really by a beach?

  2. Beaches are actually a poor place to train, the sand makes it hard to jump.

My suggestion is to find some nice soft grass or turf, and get someone to spot you for the first few times you try it. Youtube is a great place to find tutorials.
